VŠE still in their hearts: FMV alumni returned to their alma mater after 27 years

On Saturday, June 14, 2025, a group of five graduates from the Faculty of International Relations (FMV), who completed their studies in 1998, gathered at the Prague University of Economics and Business (VŠE).

The campus tour began at 11:00 a.m. in front of the Old Building. The alumni first visited several lecture halls: Vencovský Auditorium (originally known as the New Auditorium), where graduation ceremonies are held; Likeš Auditorium (formerly the Old Auditorium); and Lecture Hall NB. After 27 years, they once again sat down in the university seats, reminiscing about what it was like to be students — recalling not only lectures, but also exams. On their way from Likeš Auditorium, the group stopped in the outdoor area under the plane tree, where today’s students often study or relax. They also saw the Wall of Partners, took a look inside Umbrella Pizza Bar, and visited the first floor of the New Building, home to the VŠE Rectorate.

Next, the group moved to the Italská Building, where they peeked into the student cafeteria. The following stop was the Rajská Building, where they took a group photo on the famous staircase — the same spot where today’s students traditionally pose after graduation ceremonies. They then explored several seminar rooms and the new branded space UNI.Space ŠKODA AUTO. The tour continued to the upper floors of the Rajská Building, where the Faculty of Business Administration is located.

The final stop was the Old Building, where the alumni visited the Idea Fair coworking space and reminisced about their student days spent there. Throughout the tour, many memories resurfaced — of both familiar places and the professors who taught them, some of whom are still active at the university today.

During their visit, the alumni also learned many interesting facts about the modern VŠE: the current number of students, the study programs offered by each faculty, details about the admissions process, student housing, and campus life.

The alumni were impressed by how much their alma mater has changed, yet they also found places that have remained just as they remembered. The visit, after 27 years, was a deeply emotional and nostalgic experience. They all agreed that if they had to choose a university again, they would once more choose VŠE. Some of their children are now considering studying at VŠE — so this may not have been their last visit, and perhaps next time they will return as proud parents of a new generation of students following in their footsteps.

We sincerely thank the alumni for choosing to visit their alma mater. We hope they enjoyed the tour, learned something new, and fondly reminisced about their student years — right where their personal and professional journeys began.
