FMV alumni returned to VŠE after 45 years!

On Thursday, May 29, 2025, graduates of the Foreign Trade program from the former Faculty of Commerce (today’s Faculty of International Relations, FMV), who graduated in 1980, returned to the Prague University of Economics and Business (VŠE). A total of 130 students, including international ones, studied this program at the time, and 54 of them attended the reunion. Among the participants was doc. Ing. Ludmila Štěrbová, CSc., from the Department of International Economic Relations, former Vice-Rector for Strategy of VŠE, and former Vice-Dean for International Relations and PR of the FMV. She took the lead in organizing the reunion, with the VŠE Alumni Centre gladly assisting her with its preparation and organization.

The reunion began at 2:00 p.m. in the VŠE Academic Club Restaurant. Name tags and a list of participants were prepared to help everyone reconnect with their classmates. At 3:00 p.m., a campus tour followed, starting in the Rajská Building, which was built after their graduation, in 2005. The alumni took a group photo on the famous staircase where today’s graduates traditionally pose after their ceremonies. The group also looked into seminar rooms and visited the new branded space UNI.Space ŠKODA AUTO.

Next, the group moved to the New Building, where they visited Vencovský Auditorium, the venue of traditional graduation ceremonies, Likeš Auditorium, Lecture Hall NB B, the Umbrella Pizza Bar restaurant, and the Wall of Partners. After 45 years, the alumni had a unique opportunity to sit once again in university lecture halls and relive the feeling of being students — an emotional and nostalgic experience for many.

The tour continued in the Old Building, where participants explored the Idea Fair coworking space, several seminar rooms, and reminisced about their study years spent in that building. Some also stopped by the student cafeteria in the Italská Building, before returning to the Academic Club Restaurant, where they enjoyed refreshments, shared memories and updates, and spent quality time together after so many years.

For most participants, this was their first visit to the university since graduation, except for those who had attended their children’s ceremonies. They were amazed by the transformation of their alma mater — some even compared it to Harvard and described the Idea Fair coworking space as reminiscent of Google’s offices. The tour offered a special added value that no off-campus reunion could provide.

We sincerely thank all alumni who chose to visit their alma mater 45 years after graduation. We hope they enjoyed the reunion and the tour, learned something new, and reminisced together about their student years — right where their personal and professional journeys began.
